DescriptionMade in Ireland by JMH Jewelry, Dublin. Inspired by carved stone Irish high crosses, this sterling silver Irish Celtic cross is embossed with polished Celtic knotwork against a rough cast background. To the Celts, the flowing lines and interwoven designs of their art represented the interconnectedness and continuity of life. The Irish "Trinity Knot" design is often found on crosses.Examples of fine Celtic knotwork can be found in Ireland's national treasures, such as the Book of Kells, an illuminated hand-written manuscript of the four Gospels, or in the treasures of gold displayed at the National Museum in Dublin, which houses fine examples of Irish Celtic jewelry and metalwork with Celtic knotwork designs. JMH Jewelry is a small family-owned business, based in Dublin, which carries on the tradition of fine jewelry making in Ireland today. The cross is 1 and 1/8 inch high, measured without including the piece that attaches to the chain, and 3/4 of an inch across. An 18 inch silver chain is included, and the cross comes presented in a green velvet gift box. A smaller and a larger version of the same cross are also available... Assayed and hallmarked at Dublin Castle, Ireland. For a larger view, please click on the image.
